GEOMETRY GAMES

Hello everybody!

In this entry, I wanted to show you a few materials you can use during math in order to teach geometry.

In the picture, it is shown a teaching resource that can be used in several ways. With elastic bands and the board, students can create their own figures developing their imagination. It also can be a helpful material to create plain geometrical figures, during exercises in which they have to calculate the perimeter, for example.

In case we do not have this specific resource, or we are not able to buy it, we can always use this common game, adding elastic bands.

The material that we can see in these pictures is pretty similar to the one shown before, the difference is that students must use a plastic pen that simulates a "needle" that introduces the thin ropes in the little holes of the plastic board. Another difference is that, unlike the other resource, this material allows children to
simulate drawing in a paper, due to they have to hold the "needle" to create the figure. Practising this movement helps to the development of the coordination, mostly in the early stages.

Personally, I would use these materials, to help students to draw and understand plain geometric figures with students of the first cycle of primary education, but also with older kids maybe before the solving of harder problems proposed in class. In my opinion, these materials help with the visual understanding of the geometry.
